Monthly Prayer Page: September

Welcome to the Jesuit Missions Monthly Prayer Page. Here you will find topical prayers and different prayer styles to help broaden and deepen your prayer life in the tradition of Ignatian spirituality

JM Prayer Focus: Peace (International Day of Peace)

Suggested Prayer Type: An Interfaith Prayer

Jesuit Missions is an organisation committed to enabling peace in our world, both in our work in British schools and in responding to international emergencies.

During this month which includes the International Day of Peace, let us pray in solidarity with other faith groups for peace in our world. May peace be a desire that unites all religions of the world. The below prayer was written by an anonymous Jainist for an interfaith vigil for the Syrian conflict last year in St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham:

Prayer Stimuli: Jainist Prayer for Peace

Violence is the root cause of all miseries in the world. Violence, in fact, is the knot of bondage… A weapon howsoever powerful it may be, can always be superseded by a superior one; but no weapon can, however, be superior to non-violence and love.

Final words of wisdom:

“How God and the devil struggle, and the battlefield is the human heart”. (Fyodor M. Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov)
