New 2018 Volunteer Placement

Millions of people around the world are forced to leave their homes because of conflict, persecution, poverty and natural disasters. The majority of these people seek safety in developing countries who often struggle to survive themselves. This placement will give you the chance to make a practical contribution to the refugee crisis by volunteering with the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in South Africa.

September 2018 will see the launch of a new volunteering opportunity for young people aged between 18 and 27. Volunteers will travel to South Africa where they will spend 12 weeks alongside local volunteers working with refugees. The work volunteers will carry out will be part of a longer-term strategy that will generate an impact that will last longer than the actual placement.

What will I do?

As a volunteer you will support JRS in their different areas of work. For example, you could work in the skills centres, do health visits or get involved in advocacy work to raise awareness about the reality of refugees. By participating in the programme, you will have a real chance to give hope and contribute to the lives of refugees in Southern Africa.
