What Was Promised at COP26
In this campaign Jesuit Missions is concentrating on the delivery Climate Finance:
Honour and exceed the $100 billion climate finance commitment
The promise: The oldest and most iconic promise for industrialised countries to meet in 2022 is the delivery of $100 billion in climate finance for developing countries.
What is means: The delivery of public and private grants and loans from industrialised countries to those that countries that have been affected most by climate change and therefore need to adapt to new environmental conditions. Click here to see what adaptation looks like.
Will it work? The failure to realise this as intended by 2020 was recognised as a breach of trust at COP26. Meeting the pledge in 2022 would help restore faith in climate negotiations. Industrialised countries have drawn up a delivery plan for how to do so. Therefore all the hard work is done – countries and business just need to act now.
The UK State Opening of Parliament is on 10 May. Click here to see what you can do to ensure that these important issues make it onto the Queens Speech.
