Join the Global Ignatian Prayer Vigil: Breathing Together
Jesuits Global is hosting a live stream prayer vigil on 25 September at 1 pm and 7 pm BST. The live stream can be accessed on the Jesuits Global YouTube channel.
Through the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat as part of the Season of Creation, the Ignatian family is hosting Breathing Together, the global prayer vigil. This is an opportunity to pray as a global community for ecological conservation and action for justice.
There will be a combination of symbolic and interactive actions as part of the prayer vigil. It will also feature testimonies and reflections from the people living in the communities that are directly affected by deforestation.
The name, Breathing Together, is inspired by the Congo Basin, the Amazon and the Asian forests which act as the lungs of our world. Today, these forests are literally and figuratively on fire. Consequently, we are experiencing disharmony in our changing climate and we will be coming together to pray on this matter.
Jesuit Missions is delivering work across many countries to help address the negative effects of climate change. This includes helping to counteract deforestation in Madagascar, through a tree planting and awareness raising project. We are also supporting a conference which is bringing together 100 young people from the eight countries of the Congo Basin. The conference will focus on Laudato Si’ Encyclical’s call to action in protecting our common home. We are delivering this in partnership with Jesuit Urumuri Centre in Rwanda.
