Take it one step further and run as a Womble!
Ever since creator Elizabeth Beresford gave the Jesuit Missions team permission to race dressed as Wombles, we have had runners braving all weathers to complete the 26.2 miles dressed as the furry local mascot.
This is the 22nd consecutive year that Jesuit Missions has had a team in the London Marathon raising a total of over £1 million for marginalised communities across the world. This year Jesuit Missions marathon team of thirty will be supporting South Sudanese refugees in Uganda and a women’s para legal programme in India.
Why our runners this year have been inspired to run for Jesuit Missions:
Sr Theo CJ was inspired to run after spending seven months of 2017 in Guyana where she lived in the interior conducting research on the bilingual education program supported by Jesuit Missions. She is running dressed as a Nun to promote vocations.
Richard Greenwood, Outreach and Communications Manager at Jesuit Missions, is running for the first time after being inspired to run by spending six years greeting runners at the finish line.
Stonyhurst alumni Gabriel, Greg and Charlie are running their first marathon inspired by the work they supported whilst studying at the Jesuit school.
Two runners from Malta, including one Womble will be taking on the challenge after training hard through the winter months.
Anne-Marie and Andrew Kennedy, husband and wife and teachers at Jesuit schools in London, are running as a team inspired by the Jesuit education and Ignatian spirituality which they are surrounded by daily.
We have a team of ten from Jesuit school Mount St Mary’s who held a charity ball to kickstart their fundraising.
Make sure to get out and watch this year’s London marathon on Sunday 22nd April from 9.30 am to get inspired yourself! It’s never too late to start running…
