JM Prayer Focus: The London Marathon

Every year supporters take part in the London Marathon to raise funds for Jesuit projects overseas and JRS. UK.

This year the money raised by our runners will be used to support refugees in Uganda and to empower women as part of a Para-legal prgramme in India.

Priests, head teachers, school teachers, pupils, parents, parishioners, Jesuit Missions volunteers and of course two Wombles run to support life changing work throughout the world.

This year we have a team of ten runners from Mount St Mary’s school in Derbyshire.

The Wombles’ costumes have been a feature, not just of the Wimbledon team but also of the entire Marathon for 16 years. The Wombles were created by Elizabeth Bereford (MBE). She enthusiastically gave her permission for them to be used in the event and over the years she became a staunch supporter of the JM team.

This year will be the 22nd time that a team will be running to raise funds for Jesuit Missions, to enable them to continue their vital development projects overseas.

As our charity runners prepare to face the London Marathon on 22th April, let us pray with them and for them by remembering in the words of St Paul in his First Letter to the Corinthians (9:24-25):

24 In a race all the runners run. But only one gets the prize. You know that, don’t you? So run in a way that will get you the prize. 25 All who take part in the games train hard. They do it to get a crown that will not last. But we do it to get a crown that will last forever…
