India is the 7th largest country in the world and has the 2nd population. It is a country full of colour, faith and hope. Yet, it faces the everyday challenges that come with extreme poverty and inequality.
Jesuit Missions volunteer programme in India offers you the chance to spend six months immersed in this very different culture, where you will teach in a Jesuit school in the North Eastern state of Jharkhand. The placement usually starts in October.
- You will live in a community with Jesuits or sisters and possibly other volunteers teaching in the school.
- We ask you to contribute £600 towards the cost of your ticket. You will also need around £1000 to cover the cost of visa, vaccinations, insurance and personal spending money. There are grants available which you can apply for to help you with this.
- Jesuit Missions provides a one week pre-departure training in July, held in London, where you will join other volunteers travelling overseas to discuss safeguarding, teaching techniques as well as how to overcome any challenges you may face.
The culture in India is very different to the UK; everything is very bright, and I am learning a lot about it. I spend a lot of time with the Jesuit Community and it is refreshing to see the great belief in it and God. (Matthew, 2018 volunteer) Click To Tweet
