Tanzania is situated in East Africa, within the great lakes region. It is a diverse and friendly country known for its natural beauty and rich wildlife. However, poverty and inequality remain high, and only a small part of the population are able to access quality education.
This placement offers you the chance to experience a new culture teaching at a Jesuit school in the busy capital of Dodoma. The placement usually starts in October and lasts for six months.
- As a volunteer, you will live in a volunteer community with other volunteers from around the world who will also be teaching in the school. You will all share the cooking and cleaning.
- We ask you to contribute £600 towards the cost of your ticket. You will also need around £1000 to cover the cost of visa, vaccinations, insurance and personal spending money. There are many grants available to help you with this.
- Jesuit Missions provides one week’s pre-departure training in July, held in London, where you will join other volunteers travelling overseas to discuss safeguarding, teaching techniques as well as how to overcome any challenges you may face.
“The six months I spent in Tanzania were genuinely the best of my life. I was able to live and work in a diverse country and to make lifelong friendships with people in the community.” (Isaac, Volunteer 2015) Click To Tweet
