Nepal Earthquake Response
Jesuit Missions and other Xavier Network members responded immediately to the Nepal Earthquake of 2015. By working with local partner Nepal Jesuit Social Institute Jesuit Missions was able to deliver vital relief supplies to the worst affected districts of the country.
After the initial emergency response phase Jesuit Missions supported the rebuilding of schools and community buildings. This work included building new women’s centres that are places for community to come together and learn new skills. Jesuit Missions implemented para-legal training to empower women to become knowledgeable leaders in their communities.
Three years since the earthquake, the most recent project has been the construction of a major new road which has increased economic opportunities in remote areas. The Somdang-Tipling road has reduced the journey time to the nearest town from two days to four hours.
