War in Ukraine: How You Can Help

Jesuit Missions director, Paul Chitnis writes…

Dear Friends,

In the last fortnight we have seen a tragedy unfolding in Ukraine. Russia’s invasion has led to mass displacement and violence against men, women and children.

I am aware of the tremendous amount of goodwill that exists and a desire to address the suffering of the people of Ukraine. Here in the United Kingdom, the proximity of the conflict brings home to many the reality of those around the world who are faced with war, conflict and injustice

I urge you all to support Jesuit Mission’s Ukraine Emergency Appeal.

Thanks to the international partnership between Jesuit Missions, a member of the Xavier Network, and Jesuit Refugee Service in Europe, your financial donations will help provide emergency shelter, food and essential items, facilitate transportation for the refugee population, provide legal assistance and psychosocial support, as well as other protection mechanisms to support the Ukrainian people.

I extend my sincere thanks for your continued support of our international relief and development efforts. Your contributions help to transform the lives of the most vulnerable people.

Together we continue to pray for the people of Ukraine.

There are many ways that we can show solidarity with the people of Ukraine. Your donations to Jesuit Missions are one way but another is through prayer.

Here you will find a variety of prayer resources. These represent a collaborative effort between Jesuit Missions and Jesuit Mission Australia, both members of the Xavier Network.

While designed for schools and parishes, they also provide anyone who wants to pray for the people of Ukraine with resources to journey with those who are suffering.

Jesuit Mission has launched an emergency appeal to respond to this situation.

Pope Francis has described those affected as our “brothers and sisters, for whom we must urgently open humanitarian corridors. They must be welcomed.”

We are monitoring the situation closely with our partners in the Xavier Network and the Jesuits in Eastern Europe. We will be sending support where the need is greatest as the refugee crisis unfolds in Ukraine and its neighbouring countries, including shelter, medicine, and food.
