Kerala floods 2018
In August 2018, Kerala suffered from one of the strongest monsoon seasons which brought devastating floods to the region. Hundreds of people died and thousands more were left homeless. Jesuit Missions responded by supporting the local Jesuits to provide emergency local support to meet the immediate needs of those directly affected. This included distributing food and providing access to temporary shelter.
671 Households supported. Each household has approximately 4 members so over 2600 people supported.
20 Houses Constructed
128 Houses Repaired
388 benefited from Education Support
The local Jesuits have also been training local community leaders to form disaster response teams. They will have access to local weather information and have a communication system in place ready to take action should severe flooding happen again during future monsoon seasons.
