Jesuit Missions launches 2024 Season of Creation Campaign

Jesuit Missions (JM) has called on its supporters to stand up for the future of the planet as it launched its campaign for this year’s Season of Creation.

It wants to build on the theme for 2024, ‘To hope and act with Creation’, encouraging people to be hopeful when it comes to the fate of our natural world and urging all – individuals, governments and other organisations – to act now to protect it.

To help everyone engage with the campaign, JM has produced a host of resources, including spiritual reflections, assembly materials for schools and community groups, an environment themed prayer and a ‘Butterflies of Hope’ craft activity.

It is also running a postcard and email initiative, where it will collect names to send to the UK Prime Minister, asking his government to take action at this year’s COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

And there are plans to hold several events throughout September – including ‘Picnics for the Planet’ in London and Glasgow – to shine a spotlight on the themes of Season of Creation.

There will be a focus on the Jesuit Urumuri Centre in Rwanda, an organisation supported by JM which hosts environmental projects centred on growing food.

Richard Solly, Campaigns and Advocacy Officer at Jesuit Missions, said: “The climate emergency is just about the most serious issue facing our planet – not just for human beings but for every living thing on Earth.

“We need to get the world’s governments to take much bolder, quicker action to combat it. So, we’re calling on the Prime Minister to support strong action at the COP29 climate talks this autumn.

“Please help by sending a postcard or taking our online action. Keir Starmer needs to know that there are lots of us who want the government to do more.”
