The news that the Provincial of the Jesuits in Britain, Fr Peter Gallagher SJ, has returned to his post has been welcomed by the team at Jesuit Missions.
Fr Gallagher spent the past few months resting and recovering at the Jesuit community in Boscombe, Dorset, following a knee operation at the end of last year.
During that time, the Socius, Fr Paul Nicholson SJ, had deputised as Acting Provincial. In January, he visited Jesuit Missions at its office in Wimbledon for an update on how the organisation is progressing.
Upon his return to London, Fr Gallagher said: “I am glad to be back, grateful to the community and professionals at Boscombe who have helped me, touched by the many kindnesses received and greatly indebted to Fr Nicholson for doing so well my work as well as his own for nearly three months.”
Fr Gallagher started his role as Provincial in 2023, and one of his first invitations was to the Jesuit Missions’ rebrand launch at the London Jesuit Centre in early September.
Paul Chitnis, Director of Jesuit Missions, said: “Everyone at Jesuit Missions is delighted to see Fr Gallagher return following a period of recuperation – we look forward to working with him closely going forward.
“We’d also like to thank Fr Nicholson for his time and support as Acting Provincial, including on his Visitation to Jesuit Missions earlier this year.”
